Denver, Lone Tree, Aurora, and Boulder, Colorado
Here at the Broadway Center for Plastic Surgery we are known for our exceptional breast augmentation results. Dr. Broadway can explain the benefits of removing and replacing your saline implants with silicone gel implants. He will also point out the benefits of keeping your saline implants if this is truly the best option for you.
Each implant option has advantages and disadvantages, but there are a few benefits that make the high cohesion silicone gel implants stand out as a better choice for certain women. Women who have saline implants may be ready to have them replaced simply because it has been several years since they were implanted. Others are having problems with their saline implants that can be alleviated by replacing them with silicone gel implants.
Rippling or Wrinkling
If you are thin or have very little breast tissue, you may have run into a problem called rippling or wrinkling. In this situation, the implant has developed ripples and your thinner breast tissue has conformed to the rippled shape. The outcome is that the skin overlying your breasts is not smooth, but has ripples, wrinkles or depressions.
Ripples and wrinkles can be corrected by replacing saline implants with silicone gel implants that tend to make your breasts look and feel more like natural breasts. Because the gel is cohesive, it maintains its shape, even if the casing ruptures. By retaining its shape it is less likely to develop the ripples that are associated with saline implants.
Ruptures
Although a ruptured implant should be replaced, the high definition silicone gel implant prevents you from having to experience the embarrassment of different breast sizes while you wait for an opportunity to have your implant replaced. Because the gel holds its shape, you will not experience the issues associated with silicone leakage from earlier silicone implants that were taken off the market in 1992.
Saline, on the other hand, can leak out when the implant is ruptured. Although the body absorbs saline safely the implant will deflate and require removal or replacement. At that point, many women would choose replacement of both implants and might prefer those replacements to be silicone gel implants.
