MemoryGel Breast Implants vs. Saline Breast Implants

Eight years ago I selectecd Dr. Broadway as my plastic surgeon for breast augmentation. I loved Dr. Broadway and his staff, and of course the balanced, artistic, and beautiful results he offers his Denver Colorado plastic surgery patients. Today, I am Dr. Broadway's patient coordinator and have been with his practice for over 6 years. At the time of my surgery saline breast implants were my only option because the MemoryGel implants were not yet approved by the FDA. I had my saline implants for 8 years, they made it through pregnancy, nursing and intense training to get my pre baby body back. And although I loved my saline implants, I continuously heard other patients express how soft their gel implants were, and how natural they looked.

In November of 2009, I decided to remove and replace to the MemoryGel breast implants and could not be happier with my result. They feel softer and aesthetically are much prettier. I can't express enough how easy the procedure was because my pocket was already created, and I feel more confident knowing that I won't one day wake up with a deflated implant.

The Most Natural Breast Implants in Denver, Colorado

We receive many calls on daily basis from inquiring patients aksing the difference between saline breast implants and the Memory Gel high cohesive silicone gel breast implants. The final implant selection is a personal choice made by the patient, but one that can be easily made once the patient knows all of the facts. Mentor Saline Implants

The saline breast implant is made of a silicone shell, and has been the only choice for women looking to have breast augmentation for a number of years. It is made of a silicone shell that comes to the surgeon empty. During surgery the surgeon will place the implant through the preferred incision site, and will be inflated with saline solution.

The pros of choosing a saline implant include: more incision site options, confirmed rip or tear because implant will deflate, lower in cost.

The cons for choosing a saline implant include: higher risk for a deflation requiring a second surgery, higher chance for rippling in very thin women, does not look or feel as natural, fewer profile options.

Memory Gel Breast Implants

The high cohesive silicone gel breast implant was approved by the FDA in 2006 for cosmetic purposes. This implant however has been around since 1993 but was only approved for reconstructive use. The silicone shell is made of three layers (the old silicone implant was made with one shell and the silicone substance was similar to the consistency of motor oil) and can be considered as a solid form. A patient would never know if they had a small rip or tear in this implant because it does not leak into the body and the likelihood of having to remove and replace due to a deflation is much lower than that of a saline implant.

The pros of choosing the high cohesive silicone gel breast implant include: look and feel more natural, lower chance of rippling, lower risk of developing a deflation, lifetime warranty, and more profile options allowing patient to tailor their result.

The cons of choosing the high cohesive silicone gel breast implant include: slightly more expensive, rountine MRI's recommened by manufacturer, uncertainty of tear.

The Keller Breast Funnel

Dr. Broadway is the first plastic surgeon in Colorado to offer his patients the Keller Breast Funnel. This unique device was designed by a plastic surgeon to aid in breast augmentation procedures.

How to Avoid Risks Assosiated With Breast Augmentation

Dr. David Broadway is a multi-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is very proficient with breast augmentations. In his 18 years of experience, he has developed a meticulous technique that decreases your risk of Capsular Contraction. After breast augmentation with breast implants, excessive scar tissue may form around the breast implant which causes the breast implants to harden (similar to what a contracted muscle feels like) as the naturally forming scar tissue around the breast implant tightens and squeezes it. To some degree this is normal.

Dr. Broadway performs surgery at Renewal Surgery Center, the only state-licensed ambulatory surgery center in Colorado that is dedicated to plastic surgery. During your breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Broadway is the only person to physically handle the implant to minimize any infection, which can be a related factor to capsular contraction.

Another preventative measure is that Dr. Broadway puts a drain in each breast after surgery. These drains exit right next to the outside of the incision that is about 4cm long. Each drain on average empties approximately 50-100ml the first night post surgery. This is beneficial because the drains pull away this excess fluid that your body makes to fill any voids. This in turn minimizes the chance for any infection to take place.

Best Breast Augmentation Results in Denver

Many patients who have breast augmentation are confused about post operative recommendations for wearing a bra. Do you need to wear a bra, when should you wear the bra, and most importantly, what is the correct type of bra?

The fact of the matter is every Denver Breast Augmentation surgeon has a unique technique, and post operative care can vary based on the surgeon’s beliefs. With Dr. Broadway’s experience he strongly recommends to all of his Colorado breast augmentation patients, to wear a good supportive underwire bra around the clock for the first 3 months after surgery.

Once the Mentor implants have settled into a good position (which can take 2 days to 3-4 weeks depending on the patient) we want to “lock them" into place keeping them in the most ideal position until the internal pocket is fully healed. The right bra plays an important factor in this concept.
