Breast Reduction
Denver, CO
Do you feel that despite all the publicity given to breast augmentation, what you really need is a breast reduction? For many women, overly large breasts are a daily problem. They are a continuous weight that can cause backaches, poor posture, and even skeletal deformities. Your bra straps may be cutting into your shoulders and causing skin irritation. In hot weather, excess perspiration may cause discomfort and skin rashes beneath the breasts.
Breast reduction surgery removes unwanted fatty tissue and glandular tissue. It resizes your breasts to make them more proportional with the rest of your body and to relieve your chronic discomfort.
You can start today, if you would like to, by emailing cosmetic surgeon Dr. Broadway for a personal consultation.
In Your Consultation
Dr. Broadway will listen to your goals and concerns about having a breast reduction. He will answer questions and explain how things would proceed. If you do not understand something, feel free to ask another question because Dr. Broadway believes wholeheartedly in good patient education.
He will want to know your medical history and what drugs or supplements you are currently taking. He may examine your breasts and take measurements and photographs. You can discuss anesthesia options and possible complications, as well as how much time you would need to set aside for recovery.
Procedural Information
Each procedure is customized. In some cases, when excess skin is not a problem, breast reduction uses liposuction to remove the unwanted fat. There are several incision options and Dr. Broadway will discuss these with you ahead of time. One may be preferable over the others in your case.
The nipples will be repositioned higher on the breast and if necessary, the areola can be reduced in size. When the suturing is completed you will have reduced and better-proportioned breasts but your new shape will not be really clear until after recovery.
Breast Reduction Recovery
Dr. Broadway will give you printed instructions ahead of time on how to care for yourself during recovery. He will also prescribe all necessary drugs such as painkillers or antibiotics before your surgery day so that you can have them ready.
At first you will have dressings over your breasts and perhaps a short-term drain if there is seepage. The swelling will gradually subside and you can wear a support bra while your breasts continue to heal. You will have a series of follow-up visits for monitoring your progress.
Your results will be very pleasing and a great relief from the excess weight you were supporting previously. Now you will have the pleasure of shopping for new clothes. If you were unable to participate in sporting activities before, you can do so after your breast reduction recovery is complete.
